Make Your Deck a True Outdoor Room

A fireplace is one of the most popular and requested features for custom decks we build.

Having a fire will allow you to enjoy your deck on cooler nights, extending your deck’s usefulness. You’ll appreciate the added ambiance too.

Our designer can help you incorporate a fireplace into your deck design plan.

Types of Fireplaces for a Deck

The two main fireplace choices are gas or wood-burning.

Gas

A gas fireplace is easier to use compared to wood-burning. The gas fireplaces we install typically are remote-controlled and fire up immediately.

Many models come with lighting effects that allow you to change the color depending on the mood you would like to set.

The “linear” style is a popular choice and a 42-48 inch width is common.

Wood Burning

A wood-burning fireplace for your deck is slightly less expensive compared to gas. It also allows you to cook or roast marshmallows.

Stone veneer on the exterior is a popular option.

“Stump’s Decks and Porches is the Nordstrom of customer service for deck construction! I highly recommend Stump’s outstanding team if you’re in need of a deck. From Aaron Peachey designing an impressive deck with fireplace, kitchen, and pavilion to Calvin Waldner leading the hard-working team to construct perfection. Kudos to all the other staff as well, including Jon Hansen’s exceptional problem-solving skills. With Stump’s, the customer is always right and taken care of. Can’t thank Stump’s enough for the stunning outdoor space I am enjoying every day!”

Fireplace Material Options

Stone and tile are by far the most popular exterior options for deck fireplaces. Stone is more traditional, while tile gives a more modern feel.

Material choice comes down to your overall deck design, your style preferences, and the feel you’re looking to create.

Stone Veneer

Stone veneer offers a more traditional look for your fireplace with many options to choose from. Provia is a brand we recommend.

Tile

Porcelain tile gives a more modern feel. We can work with you or your designer to select the tile style that will work best for your deck.

Brick

While brick is often used for standalone patio fireplaces, it’s also an option for a deck fireplace, just not as common.
